Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal unveils India's first AI chip, set for a 2026 release: Key highlights from the Sankalp 2024 event.

At the Sankalp 2024 event on August 15, Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal announced major strides in AI and tech integration within Ola Electric and Ola Consumer (formerly Ola Cabs). A key highlight was the incorporation of Krutrim, Aggarwal's AI startup, into both divisions, along with the deployment of an AI-driven customer service tool developed by Krutrim.

Additionally, Aggarwal unveiled plans to establish a 1-gigawatt data center by 2028, a significant leap from the current 20-megawatt capacity, signaling Ola's ambitious expansion. Central to this vision is the development of India’s first indigenous AI chip, also created by Krutrim, set for release in the near future.

Our goal is to redefine AI chip performance by 2028,” Aggarwal said, outlining Ola’s ambitious plans. He committed to delivering the first AI chip for India by 2026, with two chips in development—Bodhi-1 and Bodhi-2—capable of supporting over 10 trillion parameters. Bodhi-2 is slated for release by 2028.

Krutrim, Aggarwal's AI startup, has also made progress in the consumer space. It launched an Android app for its AI chatbot in May 2024, following the chatbot's public beta release in February. Designed to compete with global AI leaders like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Microsoft’s Copilot, Krutrim's chatbot is powered by multilingual large language models (LLMs), supporting over 10 Indian languages, with plans to expand to all 22 official languages by the end of 2024.Ola has announced a significant rebranding of its ride-hailing division, transitioning from Ola Cabs to Ola Consumer, signaling its expansion into a broader range of consumer-focused services. Additionally, the company has relaunched Ola Share, its ride-sharing service, which was paused in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The service has been reintroduced in Bengaluru, with plans to expand to other cities in the near future.
